Berryman Best in ASCS Gulf South Laney Memorial at HRP
Lonnie Wheatley, BAYTOWN, Texas (May 10, 2008) – Defending American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region champion Brandon Berryman picked off his first series win of the year by wiring the field in Saturday night's Sixth Annual Ronal Laney Memorial 25-lap feature event at Houston Raceway Park.
Starting from the pole position, Berryman fought off Channin Tankersley the entire distance to snare his fourth career series win aboard the Westside Performance-powered Sport Performance Collision No. 31 Triple-X.
Bidding for a third consecutive series win, Tankersley pulled alongside Berryman on the 21st lap. Berryman was up to the task though, fighting off the challenge and beating Tankersley to the stripe by several car lengths.
Taking the show position behind Berryman and Tankersley was rookie show Michael McNeil, who claimed his top career series finish, with Chris Sweeney and Greg Rilat rounding out the top five.
Bruce Crockett was sixth, with Gary Watson, Wes Miller, Brandon Corn and Bean Elliott completing the top ten.
Corn and Tankersley were victorious in heat race action.
